The different safety classes and safety components ensure that you get a pair of safety shoes that give you optimum protection in your specific work environment. Most of MASCOT's footwear comes in sizes 39-48. However, some footwear is available from sizes ranging down to 35 and up to 50. This means that all of our footwear is suited to both men and women. Our footwear is also available in a wide choice of colours, so there is bound to be a pair to suit you. Below is a helpful guide to choosing the right safety footwear for your job.
Choose the right safety footwear
Which safety footwear is right for you? Firstly, think about the industry you work in. Next, think about which upper material and safety class you need. And there may be more considerations to make based on your job. If you work in trade and light construction or light industry and logistics, MASCOT has several ranges to choose from. Check out MASCOT® FOOTWEAR MOVE, MASCOT® FOOTWEAR ENERGY and MASCOT® FOOTWEAR CARBON in particular. If you work in heavy industry or heavy construction, check out the MASCOT® FOOTWEAR INDUSTRY range.
Leather or textile?
The footwear's upper material really affects the footwear's properties. Generally, the choice of upper material falls between leather or textile. An upper material made from a textile such as polyester gives you a more breathable and lightweight shoe. It also provides an extremely high level of comfort in indoor environments. However, leather is more durable and makes the shoe either water-repellent or waterproof. Safety footwear in leather is best suited to those who work outdoors in all weathers, or in environments where the footwear is subjected to hard wear and tear.
Safety classes
All of MASCOT's safety footwear is approved according to EN ISO 20345. This is a European standard that ensures that the safety footwear is suited to work in areas where safety is both essential and a priority. The certification covers different safety classes, each one indicating the type of protection the footwear provides. Our webshop features a wide range of footwear in safety classes SP1 and S3. Common to both classes are that in addition to covering basic needs such as ergonomic fit and shock absorption, the footwear also features toe caps, a closed heel, nail protection, anti-static properties, as well as anti-slip and oil and petrol resistant soles. The difference between the two classes is that in addition to the above, S3 is also waterproof or water-repellent, unlike SP1. So S1P is generally recommended for those who work indoors. S3, on the other hand, is for those who always or partly work outside.
Special requirements
In addition to safety certification requirements and upper materials, there may be special preferences or conditions in your workplace that you should consider before choosing safety footwear. If you work with materials or in environments that are sensitive to electric charges, you should choose safety footwear with electrostatic properties (ESD) for effective protection. If your job involves a lot of walking, it is worth having lighter footwear, so you avoid achy feet at the end of the day. The footwear's toe caps and nail protection will impact the footwear's overall weight. MASCOT also offers footwear with a choice of classic steel nail protection or textile nail protection. The textile nail protection is lighter and extremely flexible. It also has the benefit of avoiding a bridge of cold air forming, as the textile blocks out the cold from the outside. If you are particularly sensitive to the cold, choose footwear that is metal-free but with textile nail protection and composite or carbon fibre toe caps. If you work in environments that have a stable temperature, you can easily choose footwear with steel or aluminium nail protection.
If you work in a demanding environment with high temperatures, choose PU/rubber soles. MASCOT's PU/rubber soles are specially designed for challenging environments, as they are heat-resistant up to 300°C of contact heat.
