X: Indicates product’s overall class, depending on the area of the fluorescent fabric and the area of reflective tape. The GO/RT 3279 (RIS-3279-TOM) standard is based on the European standard ISO 20471:2013 (which supersedes the old version EN 471:2003). It requires garments to meet at least class 2 (the mid-point of a 3-class scale) of ISO 20471 for the minimum area of high visibility materials used within a garment. Whereas the European standard permits several different colours of high visibility materials, the railway standard specifies an orange colour. It is the label to look for when you need products that tolerate industrial washing. Products with this symbol are tested according to the methods recommended in EN ISO 15797.
